An extremely rare 1/24 stater from an uncertain Ionian mint
Lot 142
IONIA. Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. 1/24 Stater (Electrum, 5 mm, 0.64 g), Phokaic standard. Uncertain design with pellets around. Rev. Rough incuse. BMFA -. Rosen -. cf. 283 (lion's paw) and 344 (cross-shaped pellets). SNG Kayhan -. SNG von Aulock -. Extremely rare. Nearly extremely fine.

The obverse of this coin is vaguely reminiscent of both the lion's paw issues (SNG Kayhan 724) as well as of the early floral coinage sometimes attributed to Erythrai (SNG von Aulock 7776), but the design is still quite different and points toward a differing mint
